The 20 Questions Book Tag

Hi, everyone! This is my first book tag so I’m not entirely sure if I did this right… technically, nobody tagged me, but whatever. This book tag is the one with 20 classic questions. It’s been floating around the book blogger community for a while, and I’m really excited to try this out.

What is a book tag?

A book tag is a set of questions organized by books, book genres or something else to do with reading. For example, there is a realistic fiction book tag and an unpopular opinions book tag. This book tag contains 20 basic questions, and is a common starter tag so you can get to know me. Without further ado, let's get started!

The 20 Questions book tag

1. How many books are too many books in a series?

Um, there’s no such thing, obviously. One of my favorite book series is contains 11 books and counting.

Of course, there are series that I thought were stretched out too much, and could’ve been condensed (looking at you, Harry Potter). But if the novels are well written, I love a good series.

2. How do you feel about cliffhangers?

A love-hate relationship, really. There are times when I haaaaate them and times when I don’t. Of course, I’m always devastated at first, but after reading the next book, I’m too overjoyed to care. If you’ve read Keeper of The Lost Cities before, you know that the author loves cliffhangers. Like, a lot. So I’m used to them by now.

3. Hardcover, paperback, or…?

Please don’t get mad at me for saying this, but Ebook. I know what you might be thinking, and trust me, I’ve heard it. I get that some people don’t think Ebooks are real books. But we can agree to disagree (or we can duke it out in the comments section.)

The point is that I have this handy app called Sora, and it’s amazing. I get to access tens of thousands of books (no exaggeration) with a click of my mouse. The best part? My school district gives it to us for free! I love this app so much… more than I do to hardcover or paperback.

Don’t get me wrong. When I love a book, I’ll certainly order it online so I can reread it. When I do that, I get a hardcover so the book lasts. And my favorite place in the world is still a library. I looooove browsing books anyway, and even if I don’t check anything out, I still adore the atmosphere and feel of a library.

4. Favorite Book?

Oh, you’re hilarious. You almost had me there for a second. For a moment there, I thought you actually wanted me to pick one.

Wait. You’re not kidding? You legit want me to select a favorite book? Please, have mercy on me. You can’t make me choose just one! That’s like asking me to pick a favorite child. I am not answering this question.

No, seriously. This is impossible. Next question.

5. Least Favorite Book?

Okay, I think I can answer this one. Although I don’t have a particular ‘least favorite’, I can tell you that a book I didn’t enjoy was The Samosa Rebellion. It was a 2.75 star read. It just seemed really boring… let me know if you disagree!

6. Love Triangles: Yes or No?

Me? *laughs nervously* What are you talking about? My parents told me to not read any romance books. *sweats*

But seriously, I’m not that big of a love triangle fan. My reading pet peeve is when there’s a perfectly decent book that seems really interesting in the first half, but then the author decides to add some ‘light’ romance and ruins the book. So I'm going to go with no.

7. The most recent book you just couldn’t finish?

Oooh, I know the answer to this! My friend recently recommended The Thing About Jellyfish to me. I read, like, the first two chapters, and it did seem pretty interesting. But then my friend announced that she was moving away, and I kind of decided to return the book just to annoy her.

Another book I never finished is Warcross by Marie Lu. Too much romance.

8. A book you’re currently reading?

I’m currently reading The Red Pyramid, book one of The Kane Chronicles, by Rick Riordan. Yup, that’s the Percy Jackson guy. The book is really interesting, and I’m loving it so far. Plus, the book is hilarious. I can’t go a page without bursting out laughing.

Edit: I finished the book!

9. The last book you recommended to someone?

I actually don’t quite remember. I recommend books to people so frequently, I recommended 5 today. I don't  remember what order they were in, but here they are: Girls Save The World In This One, Exile, The Red Queen, Playing With Fire, One Of Us Is Lying, and After Zero.

10. Oldest book you’ve read by publication date?

Well, I actually haven’t read this book yet, but I’m going to read The Time Machine by H. G. Wells for my summer reading project. It was written sometime in 1895, and seems really intriguing.

11. Newest book you’ve read by publication date?

Stellarlune, written by Shannon Messenger. It was actually published back on November 8, 2022, but it's still the newest I’ve read as of 6/30/23. If you have any suggestions about new releases I should try, please let me know!

12. Favorite author?

Um, no. We’ve already discussed this back when you asked me for my favorite book; there is no way I’m going to select just one. But some of my favorite authors include, but are not limited to, Jenny Han, Rick Riordan, J. R. Tolkien, and many more.

13. Buying books or borrowing books?

Hmm… both, actually. I always borrow a book online if it’s the first time I read it, but if I liked it, I won’t hesitate to buy a physical copy. That way, my personal library is filled with only my most favorite reads.

14. A book you dislike that everyone else loves?

A Series of Unfortunate Events

The book is exactly what it sounds like. Several orphans who can’t catch a break attempt to live their lives while fate throws several billion tons of lemons their way. I’m not sure why people found the book interesting; it seemed rather mundane and tragic to me.

15. Bookmarks or dog-ears?

Haha, joke’s on you. I use digital books, so the answer is none of the above. Digital books autosync, so if I close a book, my computer will remember where I was for next time. No bookmarks or dog-ears necessary.

But if I do buy a book, I love customizing it. That’s why I dog-ear. One of my favorite books, Artemis Fowl, has 23 folded corners sprinkled throughout my copy. I love dog-earing my favorite parts.

16. A book you can always re-read?

This is easy. "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak. It’s set in Nazi Germany, and the novel is narrated by death itself. It's a really interesting read about the fictional girl Liesel Meminger, who finds hope in books during a time of darkness. It’s a book that can be appreciated with each re-read.

17. Can you read while listening to music?

Well, I’ve never tried. I really *really* don’t like music. I don’t listen to it for fun, while doing homework, or even on car rides (I listen to podcasts instead). So I haven’t tried this before, and I probably won’t.

But I do want to try reading during a car drive. Could you comment some suggestions?

18. One or multiple POVs?

Hmm… I can’t decide. It depends on a lot of factors: The genre, author, writing style, and sometimes even my mood.

19. Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?

In one sitting, or two days at maximum. When I’m in the middle of a book, it’s all I can think about. That’s why I need to finish a book quickly; I’ll be more focused when I’m not reading.

That’s the excuse I tell myself, at least.

20. A book you’ve read because of the cover?

Just look at that beautiful shade of yellow! We need way more yellow covers because this book caught my eye instantly. I can't stop staring at it. The gorgeous illustration of the girl on the cover is so alluring. I love this minimalistic cover so much. Do you agree? Let me know in the comments!

This book is Yolk by Mary H. K. Choi. Cover art by gg

Conclusion

So, there you have it. 20 questions, and 20 (well, technically 18) answers. I had a lot of fun answering them, so if there’s a book tag you think I should try next, please let me know! I need it :)

Have a great day, and happy reading!

  1. You should read “The Sun and the Star by Rick Riordan” It’s newer than Stellarlune (which is an amazing book obviously)

  2. I dog-ear too...a lot. People always get mad at me for it, but it's SO MUCH EASIER than carrying around a bookmark. funny story, one time I actually had to use a damp candy wrapper as a bookmark because it was a brand new copy.
