a new chapter

Hello!

It has been a long time since my last post. A very long time.

I know I say that every time I remember this blog exists, but this time, I actually mean it. It's been seven months since my last post, but that was a random tournament reflection, so I don't think that counts. Therefore, it's been two to three whole years since my last actual post.

Honestly, I had forgotten this blog existed.

Looking back on all my old posts, I'm filled with a sense of nostalgia. It's making me reminiscence 6/7th grade. It's as if I unlocked a whole new aspect of my past and now all the memories are flooding back. Because this blog has been entirely untouched for so long, it reminds me of a time capsule. Logging back onto this website for the first time in a year is like finding a treasure chest of information, words hastily typed out by a younger version of me.

I'm in high school now, and things are very busy. I was reading one of my old posts where I wrote that I read 15 books that month. Unfortunately, I read less now, due to a lack of time. That being said, books are still a corner of my life I find comfort in. No matter how complicated life gets, I always find a way to escape into the world of written words, which usually means reading on my Kindle until 2am (just kidding!! partially).

When I began this blog in 6th grade, I had a strange notion that it would become wildly popular and famous. I have far more realistic expectations now. I'm not going to be posting too often, just whenever I finish a book. I'll summarize the novel and try to analyze the theme. I'm taking an Honors English course right now, so hopefully this exercise will help me thrive in that class.

This post represents the start to a new chapter. This time, I know who I'm writing for. I'm writing for myself. I'm writing to get these words off my chest and to find a way to express myself. I'm writing because I love the concept of books. I love how something as simple as words on a page can make us laugh, cry, hope, and dream just based on the way that they are arranged.

One of my favorite quotes of all time is from George Martin's novel, A Dance with Dragons. I never read that story, but I saw the quote somewhere many years ago and it's resonated with me ever since then.

A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one.

I read because I get the unique opportunity to live a life that does not belong to me, to immerse myself in a world I will never get the chance to actually reside in. To understand a perspective I will never experience for myself. But for the duration of that novel, while I surround myself with its pages, I become one with the characters. Just for a moment. The spell is broken once the book ends. But here's the simple truth: a little piece of that magic stays with me forever. Long after I've moved on from the story, even when I forgot most of it, that book is still a part of me. And that's why I love to read.

With that, let's turn the page and begin a new chapter in the story of my life. This time, with this blog to experience it with me.
